Re-vamped Mirror

Oh how I have missed you, happy place. I am excited to post my first craft for the year! and what better way to start than by re-vamping something old into something fresh and new! My pick, our mirror above our fireplace.

Supplies : stencils, paintbrush, acrylic paint, tape.

Lay-out the stencil pattern to your preference, tape and gentle dab the paint on the stencil. Mine required 2-3 coats.

Gently pull of the stencils and your left with a unique funky mirror!

Wishing you all a wonderful Holiday season and a New Year filled with good health, love and happiness! My favourite thing to do during the holidays is to spend time with my family. This year I had the chance to make crafts with my niece and nephew. It’s wonderful to see their creativity.We painted, decorated, baked and laughted alot!

Here are a few pictures of my nephew and I baking up a gingerbread animal storm!

If you don’t have any food coloring lying around you can substitute raspberry juice for red, avocado for green, tumeric for yellow and bluberries for blue!

2011 Calendars

These calendars are a great gift to send to friends and family. I was able to make them using Microsoft Office. I basically split the standard 81/2 x11 page in half, added a table for the dates and uploaded my pictures.

I printed the calendar on a heavy stock paper to give it some stability.

Finish off by trimming each page to your desired size, hole-punch 2 holes at the top of the calendar and secure with a ribbon. Please feel free to drop me a line if you have any questions.

Shadow Boxes

Are you struggling to find the perfect gift for a friend or family member this Christmas? A shadow box is a great way to display memorabilia or collectibles that have significance to the recipient. It’s a very inexpensive, thoughtful gift that will make anyone happy to receive it. Here are a few examples of shadow boxes I have made in the past few years.

A collection of shells, drift-wood, and rocks from our travels make for great art in our bedroom plus they remind us of the wonderful adventures we’ve been on!

A shadow box, for my husband of our trip to Banff and Jasper. I even added some rocks from our hikes.

I made this shadow box for a dear friend of mine. She is an amazing sewer so I collected vintage sewing notions and displayed them in a shadow box for her.

Holiday Wreath

I came across some beautiful red vintage buttons while on a trip to the USA. I knew I had to make something special with them. So, I decided to make a small wreath.

Start off by cutting out a circle out of a thick card stock. Decide how wide you want it and cut another circle inside making sure you have enough room to glue on the buttons. Glue on the buttons, add a ribbon and you have yourself a button holiday wreath! We used ours on the back of our front door. Makes the peep hole look festive!

You could also use the wreath as a decorative feature under a vase.

Rudolf Clips

Do you need some help organizing your holiday shopping lists, receipts or cards? These cute clips will do the trick! All you need is some clothing pegs (I uses ones made from wood), googly eyes, red pom poms, brown felt, glue and scissors.

These are a great craft to make with kids! Take each peg, glue on the eyes and nose. Cut out a pair of antlers from the brown felt and attach it to the side of the peg.

So cute and easy to make! Here’s Rudolf in action as a Christmas card clip.

Christmas Stockings

My friend Holly joined me for an afternoon of crafts. We had a great time decorating stockings for our fireplace. Start off by downloading a template. We used Martha Stewart’s stocking template and thick white felt from a fabric store.

Cut around the template with scissors and sew a 1/2 inch around the whole stocking except for the opening. I used my sewing machine but you can also sew it by hand.

After you sew the stocking, it’s time to decorate it! We used sequins, ribbon, pom-poms, buttons and feathers to jazz up our stockings. You can either hand sew or use fabric glue to attach them.

Snowy Village
